The project states the design of a forester dwelling and hiker information point in the dunes of Wassenaar (NL). This brought along a number of challenges, such as dealing with natural surroundings and seperating and/or integrating private and public zoning. These boundaries resulted in an orthogonal composition that embraces the linear element to structure space according to the difference in purposes. The inner courtyard is designed as a mediator between private and public, creating an intimate and inviting buffer space.
The materialisation of the project, mainly plastered brick and zinc roof elements is chosen to compliment the orthogonal lines in the overall composition. Apart from developing a sense of architecture and design, this project offered room for experimentation with drawing techniques, finding ways to depict the project in a style that suits its concept. In hindsight, Abbey road became a pilgrimage to a better understanding of the personal position of a designer. It uncovered an inherent interest in architectural clarity, structure and human proportions that can be found in all subsequent projects.
